Glistening Sanctum

Ellie Home - Glistening Sanctum (clay, ribbon, flowers)

Another of Ellie’s collagelike pieces, ‘Glistening Sanctum’ constructs a hoarder’s delight of internal body parts and external features. The deconstructed collection of teeth, hair and body organ-inspired objects is almost ritualistic in its presentation. An homage to the influence of mysticism and religion in Ellie’s practice, the shrine to the human biological form scraps the categories and hierarchies we often find ourselves in. Hanging from ribbons and string, morphing in and out of body to face to feature, ‘Glistening Sanctum’ takes fluidity to the extreme to imply humanistic binaries and reductiveness are merely ideas to toy with.
