The largest of Ellie’s clay works, ‘Interior Castle’ creates a world inside the body itself. Using a pastelised version of her mouldy colour palette, the sculpture depicts a fantastical land inside the dying flesh. It is a campy portrayal of her usual decay and degradation, steering much more into religious mysticism than other pieces to deliver us a mystic body that both welcomes us in and sets us on edge. 

Living on her living room mantelpiece when not on exhibit, ‘Interior Castle’ commands whatever space it is in from domestic to public.
