Anatomy of a Sea Urchin/ Sex Without Touching

Alex Ellerton - Anatomy of a Sea Urchin/ Sex Without Touching (blender rendering)

Biology and sexuality, always entwined in Alex’s practice, come together in ‘Anatomy of a Sea Urchin/ Sex Without Touching’ to imply the inherent nature of sexuality, and connection, doesn’t always require the physical contact of sex. The over-sexualisation of gay men, and their art, is something Alex is no stranger to. Interpretations of his work as always being linked to his sexuality have been common, and overlook entirely the intricacies of his pieces. ‘Sex Without Touching’ challenges the idea that sexuality is a one category thing, breaking sex and us down to biology, anatomy and a vividly camp colour palette.
