Work(s) In Progress

Ellie Home - Clay candlestick unfired (approx. 12 inches x 10 inches)

Ellie’s and Shawn’s flat is often decorated with pieces waiting to be fired. Sitting next to finished works by both artists, the entire artistic process of Ellie’s clay works can be seen in her living room. These candlesticks fall in theme with the rest of her practice, built up of intricate detail and texture. Even in their unfinished state, they are artworks in their own right.

The level of detail that goes into Ellie’s works is so intricate that a work like her painting in progress is a months long process. This particular piece explores what Ellie describes as ‘human leakiness’, with bodily fluid and general fluidity weaving through the piece in hair and slime and tissue.

Her little gremlin creatures are woven into the piece too, tied with ribbons and frill to the piece as the internal body tumbles out from top to bottom.
