Tamara Okudu - Sticker of Ellie

Since graduating from high school, and thus leaving a formal arts education, Tamara has continued to develop her art skills alongside her career. These skills are often used to create gifts for others or for herself, but sometimes they become part of bigger projects.

Tamara Okudu - Sticker of Alex

During lockdown, after learning to make stickers to send as gifts for her friends when they were all separated, Tamara set up a business selling them. Always intended to be a short-lived endeavour until the world opened up again, it allowed her art to earn her an income for the first time.

Tamara Okudu - Custom stickers for Elouise

Because Tamara creates largely for herself and her loved ones, all of her practice is defined by her interests, aesthetics and principles. These stickers don’t elicit the same emotional response as Tamara’s larger works, but they are still personal works. Nostalgia and a bit of silliness are the driving force, allowing her for-fun pieces like those seen here to feel like being let in on an inside joke.

Tamara Okudu - plaid miniskirt and matching Bratz version

Tamara’s practice always allows for some silliness. Small projects like making matching skirts for her and her Bratz doll allow her to create even on her busiest days, and steer straight into childhood nostalgia. Sometimes, these more functional pieces become larger projects like her crochet pieces. Seen her with gloves made by Adele, Tamara’s practice celebrates art made just for you and your friends as much as art seen by the world.
